Independent thinking and critical judgement is becoming more important than ever as the future of work looks dramatically different: exponential advance of technology is transforming many professions, and employees are increasingly being asked to make quick and sound decisions with limited direction. Organisations will be looking for leaders and professionals able to think independently, evaluate complex flow of information, avoid false assumptions and possible manipulation to produce sustainable solutions.
Rapid change and uncertainty means most of learning happens in the workplace and new skills need to be continuously learnt and applied in brand new work scenarios. Critical thinking skills help to deal with new unprecedented situations or problem-solve when no obvious answers or set of approaches are available. Wise decisions are made by acknowledging bias and thinking fallacies.
